Welcome to the Surrey Public Library's online guide to its extensive collection of Canadian genealogical materials. This site is a great place to help you start, expand, or refine your genealogy search.
Did You Know? - From 1940 - 1946, registration of all adults in Canada over the age of 16 was compulsory, under both the War Measure's Act and the National Resources Mobilization Act. Members of the armed forces, religious orders, and those confined to an institution were excluded.
The registration documents include information genealogists would appreciate, especially given the more recent time frame that is often restricted by privacy laws. Statistics Canada holds the collection, available to the public for a fee. Click here to read all about it!
- The Cloverdale Genealogy collection includes Indexes to Coroners' Inquests,1879 - 1937 and the Registers to Coroners' Inquests 1879 - 1937 (results of the inquests). If you find a BC death registration in which a coroner was called in, the inquests may provide you with a story!
Document Delivery Services - The Genealogy department offers a limited look up service. Staff will locate specific records on microfilm, in print or Genealogy databases if adequate information is provided, and extensive research is not involved.
Records can be delivered either by email in .pdf format, by fax, or regular mail for a fee of $3.50 per item. Postal or fax charges will apply. Call us at 604-598-7328, or email genealogy@surrey.ca
