The mural was Guildford Library's Artist-in-Residence project which was part of the City of Surrey's Public Art Program. This colourful mural was painted primarily in acrylics. The many animals, insects, birds, plants and trees were mostly inspired from books in the Guildford Children's Library. The puppet characters that appear in the mural were drawn from artist Duncan Weller's imagination and from images gathered by Surrey children from a puppet contest.
About the Artist …
Duncan Weller was born in Lennoxville, Quebec before moving to BC. He lived in Victoria for seven years and now makes North Vancouver his home. A graduate of Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, he has studied Fine Arts and English Literature. In spite of this education, he has resolved to try his best to stay five years old.
Duncan is currently creating his own children's picture books, has two portrait commissions and will soon be painting dragons for a children's educational role-playing game.
Duncan works in oils, acrylics and watercolours. He works mostly at home, has no children, wives or cats … but may get some in the future.
